The GPS Phone – No Hassle Travel
GPS phones are an amazing idea that allows people many advantages. One positive aspect is the ability to get directions to where ever you want to go. Not only can you just get directions you can get step by step directions that can get you there and monitor you closely until you reach your final destination.
There have probably been points in your life where you have been lost in your car. And you probably did what most people do and drove around hoping to see something familiar or that you would get back on track somehow. For most people the idea of stopping and asking someone for directions is inconvenient as not only do you have to find a place to stop, you have to hope the person gives you accurate directions, and all of that might be equally unappealing if you have kids in the car. Having GPS on your cell phone can change all of that.
Via Moto and TeleNav both offer location based services. They can get you driving directions that will get you right to the front door of your location. If you are looking for a restaurant or a school, you just type in the address and wait for further instructions. You will receive very specific directions that will navigate you through your travels.
They also provide a service that will give you back up directions. So if you`re driving along and you make a wrong turn or you miss a turn, your GPS phone will simply give you a route to take you back to your original route. It will also give you re-routing instructions if there is construction or a car accident up ahead. These features allow you to stay focused on driving and elevate the stress that can come with driving and finding new places.
GPS cell phones work in two ways; subscription and software. When you subscribe to a company for GPS service you will have to have a second GPS receiver that usually sits on your car dash board. It connects through a wire or can be wireless.
When you use the subscription program you have to pay a company a monthly fee. The fee might be monthly or every couple of months and you might have to sign a contract that locks you in for a certain amount of time. And fees range in price and may increase depending on how often it is used.
If you go with the software package, you can have it put right on to your phone as an added program. In this case there is no contract to sign or monthly fees to pay for.
If you`re looking for a GPS cell phone that can give you directions while you`re on foot, you might be out of luck unless you live in Europe. There you can buy a Nokia phone that has an added accessory to make it a hand held GPS. It will provide a route plan, TomTom, city maps and GPS antenna. A hand held GPS is great for travelers on foot walking through foreign cities or hiking in the woods. Hopefully this service becomes available for travelers outside of Europe.
If you can swing the extra fee that comes with purchasing the software or don`t mind subscribing to GPS, then it might be a great thing to have. There are many perks to it and even if it not used frequently, there will most definitely be a time where it will be needed.

Problems And Positives With Gps Cell Phones
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. This can be a very valuable tool when traveling, or simply when trying to locate something in the local area without making unnecessary stops or getting lost. GPS was originally placed in higher end cars as a luxury mapping and safety tool. They are now standard on many smart phones and PDAs, and other cell phones are being outfitted with this option as well.
Despite the convenience of this feature, criminal activity has been reported in regards to the GPS system. One particular incident involved a family's home being robbed while they were attending a local football game. The car was broken into in the parking lot of the game, where the thief nabbed cash, the GPS, and the garage door opener remote. Upon arriving home, they discovered a mess of broken and missing items.
The GPS allowed the thief to find the location of the family's home, and then obtain easy entry via the garage door remote. The thief knew where the family was, so he knew that he had plenty of time to steal a big screen TV, jewelry, a stereo system, computers, and several other pricey items. There may have been the use of a truck to take the items as there were so many objects of such large sizes and weight.
Police advise to never put a home address into any GPS unit. A nearby public landmark is advisable. This insures that criminals will not be able to find the location of the user's home.
Another example involves a stolen purse. This contained the victim's bank and credit cards, cash, license, and her cell phone. She used a pay phone to call her husband who informed her that he had just texted their pin number to someone that he thought was her – the request was texted from her cell phone. The money had already been taken out of the account when they got to the bank.
Some tips to avoid an occurrence like this one:
1. Do not use nicknames or family names in contact lists in the cell phone menu.
2. Do not answer personal information and questioning via text message.
3. Confirm texts regarding meeting someone somewhere by calling the person before going to meet them.
Some of the positives that do exist in regards to GPS cell phones are the following:
1. As previously mentioned, this system can prevent getting lost and wasting time in navigating a new route or trip.
2. 911 services can easily locate the user of the phone; this is as opposed to having to use more sophisticated and time consuming methods of locating the cell phone. This system can also help in preventing dangerous situations where the user is stuck in an unknown area.
3. Keeping abreast of traffic jams and accidents in order to obtain alternate route information instead of being stuck for hours.
4. Up to the minute weather information is also available with GPS. This comes in handy when planning on attending an outdoor event such as a sports game.
5. Tasks such as grocery shopping or holiday shopping can become much quicker, organized, and simpler when utilizing a GPS cell phone service.
Although there are safety precautions to take when using GPS navigation and services (as is the case with most anything these days), there are also many time saving and helpful benefits. Some of these benefits can also relate to safety issues as well. Obtaining a GPS cell phone is an important option that many should consider.

A Comparison of Dial-up and DSL
If you are considering signing up for DSL, you may wonder how DSL compares to dial-up. In this comparison, we will compare dial-up with ADSL, the most common DSL service that connects through a telephone line.
Dial-up and DSL both transmit information through your copper phone wires, but the process is different. A dial-up modem converts the analog signal on your phone line into digital information your computer can translate. Your ISP's modem must convert from digital to analog so it can travel on the phone lines. DSL uses the same lines, but bypasses the digital-analog-digital conversion. This means data can travel faster and the analog phone line can still be used while your connected to the Internet.
The total monthly price for dial-up is about $7-20 dollars a month, and installation is usually free. In some cases, the dial-up modem is not functioning or not automatically installed on the computer, so you would need to buy $20-40 modem. DSL's monthly rate can be anywhere from $15-100 a month, depending on the speed desired and the location of the consumer. More equipment is necessary for DSL and the installation is more complicated, so you can expect about $50 in start-up fees.
Dial-up exceeds DSL in transportability and availability. Dial-up service is available to any computer and any land line phone, which means you can take dial-up with you if you travel or move. Since DSL is strictly available to homes within a certain distance from the phone company's central office, rural areas can rarely be served. Many times several hundred feet determines whether or not DSL is available.
Furthermore, many phone companies do not allow other DSL companies to provide service on their customer's lines. This monopoly can increase the price of DSL, or keep DSL from being available without changing phone companies. When signing up for another company's DSL is possible, further complications can occur when activation and technical support is necessary.
A DSL set-up process takes at least several days and sometimes as much as two weeks, due to the changes to your phone line and the equipment shipping and set up time. Dial-up has a very simple to set up because the phone company does not need to be involved, and no major changes or expensive equipment is necessary. All you need is one phone cord and your existing phone jack and computer. Unless you have to wait for a setup CD to be mailed to you (which is often not necessary), you can be connected with half an hour of signing up. Of course, this means you can also change your connection set up or set up multiple connections with little effort.
DSL is a constant connection with high-speeds compatible with online games, downloads, and videos, but the price, availability, and setup procedure may be critically deterring factors. Dial-up is a simple, available, and cost effective option for many basic online uses, but will not keep up with some high-speed activities. Envisioning Satellite Internet
It is interesting to imagine all of the various signals that travel around the world, through the air and up into outer space. Just think of all the cell phone and mobile device signals seeking out towers and receivers. If these were something detectable to the human eye it would be nearly impossible to see anything else!
The same could be said of satellite signals too. There are many more satellites circling the globe than most people realize and they have hundreds of purposes. They might be a broadcasting device for radio or television; they could belong to a government agency or a scientific organization; some are even out of service. The fact is that there are millions of signals heading out into space each and every day.
